HOW TO CREATE A WEEKLY CHECK-IN THAT ACTUALLY HELPS YOU REACH YOUR GOALS
Do you set some really amazing goals? And then watch as days pass, and you are just unable to keep up with those goals. Maybe too many things were happening, or you ran out of energy.
Or maybe you just wish you could notice the good in your life. You know it’s there, but you get distracted and sidetracked by busy-ness.
As an entrepreneur, mom of two little girls, and someone who still works part-time, I get it! I always feel like I have really good intentions. I have good goals, strong resolutions, and big hopes for every new year, new week, or even just the day.
But time… busy-ness…sickness…kids… work… my exhaustion… all get in the way.
For a while, I would watch weeks pass and wonder why I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted and why it was so hard to stick with my goals.
One year, on my birthday, I decided to take a whole day away all by myself. I sat and journaled, reviewed the year, and spent time dreaming about what I wanted next. And it occurred to me… what if I gave myself the time to do a similar check-in but more frequently than just on my birthday? WHAT??
That’s when I started introducing… The Weekly Check-In.
(I also started Monthly, Quarterly, and Yearly check-ins, as well. But that’s for another time!)
The weekly check-in is a tool used by many businesses and companies. The weekly check-in may be an email that goes around, a document, or even a meeting. It is a time for all the team members to go over what they are working on and what they need help with and review goals and priorities.
Why not take this basic premise and then put it to use in my own life?
Using a weekly check-in allows me to look for gaps in my plans and ways to smooth out all of my processes and helps me to focus on my priorities. I’ve been doing a weekly check-in for several years now, and it doesn’t look like it did originally, but I am amazed at how effective it has been in my life.
That is why I want to share it with you!
Whether you are an entrepreneur, someone with big goals, or even someone who wants to tame the busy-ness a little bit… this is for you!
First, to create an effective weekly check-in, you need to commit to it.
Commit to making the time, sticking with it, and using what you learn during this time. Commit to being flexible and adapting it when you need to. And commit to yourself, knowing that the time you put in will be worth it.
Next, let’s go over the steps you need to take to create your own weekly check-in process, and then I’ll share my weekly check-in that you can download and use!
- Set a day and time. Trust me on this! If you think to yourself, I’ll make sure that weekly check-in happens; I’ll just squeeze it in when I have time… then it won’t happen. Instead, choose a day and time you can commit to most of the time. You can always change it if needed, but give yourself a starting point.
- Choose some things that help set you up for success. In other words, give your brain some cues that it’s time to focus! Maybe you light a candle, start a specific playlist, or sit in a particular place that helps you feel settled and focused.
- Set up questions or reflection ideas that help you! I have curated a set of questions and ideas that help me cover my priorities and plan well for the upcoming week. You can find that below!
- Have a system that allows you to use what you learn during the weekly check-in. I take my ideas and then make sure my calendar and daily to-do lists reflect what I’ve learned.
- Know when you are going to adjust or update your system! Once a year, I update my systems and review what’s working and what isn’t so that I can keep improving.
Now it’s time to get started!
So download my weekly check-in here, and then adjust what you need to, set aside the time, and get started.
