SPRING READING - BOOK LIST

by Elizabeth Jordahl 29 Apr 2025

“That is one good thing about this world…there are always sure to be more springs.” ― L.M. Montgomery

Ask the LORD for rain in the springtime; it is the LORD who sends the thunderstorms. He gives showers of rain to all people, and plants of the field to everyone. - Zechariah 10:1

There is something beautiful about reading in spring. You can take your books outside into the fresh air, or open up the window and let the fresh air blow through your home. A time to find a new favorite book or revisit some of your favorites. All of the seasons always bring me into a new mood for reading!

Instead of a bookworm, I tend to view myself as a book chameleon. In the spring, I feel drawn to light, fresh novels, or devotionals that draw me toward hope and joy. So in this blog post, I want to share all kinds of ideas of books that you could enjoy this spring. Whether it’s an uplifting novel, a deep devotional, a children’s book, or something to read out loud, I’ve got your perfect spring reading list. Grab a cup of your favorite spring beverage, cozy up near some natural light, maybe even light a candle, and let’s jump into this spring inspired reading list!

Fiction Books to Get Lost In

“It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want—oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!” ― Mark Twain

  • "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows – A cozy, charming story about love, resilience, and the power of books.

  • "Anne of Green Gables" by L.M. Montgomery – Classic, heartwarming, and full of joy—perfect for spring!

  • "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett – A timeless story of renewal, healing, and the magic of nature.

Devotionals & Living Books to Refresh Your Soul

  • "One Thousand Gifts" by Ann Voskamp – A beautiful book about gratitude and seeing God’s hand in everyday life.

  • "Get Out of Your Head" by Jennie Allen – A great read if you’re struggling with negative thoughts and need a mindset reset.

  • "Rhythms of Renewal" by Rebekah Lyons – A book full of encouragement on rest, restoration, and embracing new seasons with peace.

Great Read Alouds for the Whole Family

  • "The Jesus Storybook Bible" by Sally Lloyd-Jones – A beautiful way to share the love of Jesus with little ones. (I love this one just as much as my kids!)

  • "Miss Rumphius" by Barbara Cooney – A story about how we can make the world more beautiful! A great read for spring.

  • "Because of Winn-Dixie" by Kate DiCamillo – A sweet and heartfelt book about friendship, healing, and unexpected blessings.

Inspirational Non-Fiction

  • "Present Over Perfect" by Shauna Niequist – A gentle invitation to slow down, embrace simplicity, and prioritize what truly matters.

  • "Love Does" by Bob Goff – A joyful, lighthearted, yet deeply inspiring book about living with whimsy, love, and purpose.

  • "No Cure for Being Human" by Kate Bowler – A reflective and honest look at embracing life’s limitations while finding beauty in the present moment. (Just a little warning about this one… lots of descriptions about going through cancer. A big tearjerker for me!)

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” – Isaiah 43:19

Spring is a reminder that God is always at work, bringing new life and renewal to our hearts. Whether you're stepping into a new season, seeking encouragement, or simply looking for a good book, I hope this list brings you joy and inspiration.

QUESTIONS AND REFLECTIONS

One of my favorite things to do is to ponder, reflect and journal, it gives me time to think through all the various aspects of life. May you find time in your day or your week, to sit and reflect. You can use these questions as a starting place for your reflection, or just an addition to your normal journal rhythm.

  1. Read one of the books from the list, and then write yourself an old school book report!

  2. What do you love about spring reading? Focus on those things and make time in your schedule!

  3. What books would you like to read this season?

  4. Where have you seen God at work in your life lately?

  5. What’s one thing from this blog that you want to use or put into action?

“I enjoy the spring more than the autumn now. One does, I think, as one gets older.” ― Virginia Woolf

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens - Ecclesiastes 3:1
