TRADITIONS FOR SPRING

Isaiah 61:11 - “For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.”

I don’t know about you, but when the first signs of spring start to show—the tiny buds on trees, the birds singing at sunrise, the way the air just smells fresher—it’s like my soul breathes a little deeper. There’s something about this season that feels like a fresh start, a gentle nudge to shake off the winter blues and embrace the beauty of new beginnings.

Over the years, I’ve found so much joy in creating spring traditions, little ways to mark the change of season and soak up its beauty. Whether you’re looking for something to do on your own, with your family, or with your best friends, here are some fun and meaningful ways to celebrate spring this year.

A FRESH START

For You: A Spring Refresh

Spring cleaning isn’t just about dusting baseboards and reorganizing closets (though that is satisfying! If you want more help with your home spring cleaning, check out last week’s blog.).  Spring can also be about resetting our hearts and minds.

  • Spring Journal Prompts: Take a quiet morning with a cup of coffee and reflect on what you want this new season to bring. Ask yourself: What do I want to grow in my life? What do I need to let go of?

  • A Walk with Intention: I love taking a walk in early spring, just me, the sunshine, and the sound of nature waking up. Notice the tiniest details—a daffodil peeking through the soil, the way the wind moves through the trees. Let it be a reminder that change happens in small, beautiful ways. Maybe even leave your phone and ear buds at home!

  • Freshening Up Your Space: Swap out winter blankets for lighter throws, bring in some fresh flowers, or diffuse a bright citrus scent. Even little changes can make your home feel like spring.

For Your Family: Celebrating Together

Spring has always felt like the perfect season for family traditions. Here are a few of my favorites that my kids still ask for year after year!

  • Spring Picnic Adventure: Pack a simple picnic and head to a park—or even your backyard or local botanic garden! Let the kids run around, and enjoy fresh air and sunshine. Bonus: Bring a disposable camera and let them capture spring from their own perspective!

  • Gardening Together: There’s something magical about planting seeds and watching them grow. Even if you don’t have a big yard, a little herb garden in the kitchen can be just as fun (and useful!).

  • Rainy Day Fun: Spring showers are inevitable, so make a tradition of rainy-day fun. Cozy up with a favorite movie, bake something sweet, or embrace the rain—grab umbrellas and rain boots, and go puddle-jumping together.

For Your Friends: A Seasonal Celebration

There’s something about spring that makes gathering with friends feel extra special.

  • Spring Brunch & Bloom Swap: Invite your friends over for a light brunch, and have each person bring a small potted plant or bouquet. Everyone leaves with something fresh and lovely for their home!

  • DIY Floral Arranging Night: Pick up fresh flowers from a local market and have a fun night arranging bouquets together. Add some good music, laughter, and maybe a few sweet treats, and you’ve got the perfect girls’ night. You can even check with local gardens and see if they offer flower arranging classes! 

  • Sunset Stroll & Ice Cream: There’s something simple yet magical about walking with a friend as the sun sets, catching up on life, and treating yourselves to a scoop (or two) of your favorite ice cream.

Spring is such a gentle reminder that life moves forward, that beauty comes after the cold, and that growth happens—even when we don’t see it right away. Whether you celebrate with quiet moments to yourself, joyful family traditions, or laughter with friends, I hope you find little ways to embrace this beautiful season.
